Brief History of Darjeeling Tea
In 1839 Dr Campbell, a civil surgeon of the Indian Medical Service was transferred to Darjeeling. He started experimenting by planting tea seeds from China. The government also established tea nurseries during that period. Commercial development began during the 1850s
About Darjeeling Tea
Darjeeling tea, from the Darjeeling region in West Bengal, India, has traditionally been prized above all other black teas. It is also known as the Champagne of Teas and is coveted as the “World’s Best Tea”,
Darjeeling black tea when properly brewed, has a thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma. The flavor also displays a tinge of astringent tannic characteristics, and a musky spiciness often referred to by tea connoisseurs as "muscatel."
About Darjeeling Tea Gardens
Darjeeling has only 87 Tea Gardens which are spread over seven valleys that cover the Darjeeling Hills. The Darjeeling Tea Estates produce approximately 9.6 million Kgs of tea each year. Darjeeling Tea has a unique taste which can be attributed to its climate, soil, slope, mountain mist, and rain.
Darjeeling tea cannot be grown or manufactured anywhere else in the world, similar to Champagne in that region of France.
