Darjeeling's new season first flush tea fetches a record price of Rs 23,000 per kg.

Badamtam Tea Estate retains record of producing top teas in 2022 again.

Darjeeling tea's new season first flush has fetched a record price of Rs 23,000 per kg. A well-known tea brand, sourced and purchased these new season spring teas from the Badamtam tea estate of the Goodricke Group.

A leading tea company procured organic white teas at a price of Rs 23,000 per kg and moonlight tea at a price of Rs 21,000 per kg, the highest prices of the season thus far. The company purchased from Goodricke Group 10 Kgs of organic white tea and 5 kgs of moonlight tea.

These teas were harvested just a few days ago from the estate, which is located at an elevation of approximately 4500 feet above sea level, lending them an unmatched character and quality.

"These specialty teas were made using tender buds and leaves from the rare SY-1240 clone, which is only found in a few gardens," said Subroto Sen, deputy general manager, Goodricke Group.

The first flush is the harvesting of the plant's brand new two leaves and a bud during its early spring growth, which begins as early as February and frequently lasts until April. These early leaves are typically more delicate and tender, imparting a flavour that is lighter, floral, fresh, brisk, and astringent.

Darjeeling first flush tea is among the most sought-after and expensive varieties available. It is so unique and rare that tea connoisseurs refer to the first harvest from this region as the "Champagne" of teas.
